The Office of Disability Services at WPI is seeking a successful candidate who will be responsible to direct services for students with disabilities including provision of reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 legislation. Provides information to assist students with disabilities in their transition and adjustment to college. JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

  • Develop policies and procedures regarding disability services and accommodations consistent with university, state and federal guidelines and recommendations. Responsible for the review and interpretation of confidential student medical, psychological and psycho-educational evaluations to determine eligibility for services. Develop and implement appropriate accommodation plans based on the documentation.
  • Develop institutional linkages to maximize service/accommodation delivery and integrate students with disabilities into all aspects of university life. Consult and coordinate with the various campus department accommodation coordinators and staff including but not limited to Admissions, Risk Management, Student Development and Counseling, Health Center, Residential Services, Dining Hall Services, Career Development Center, Facilities, Academic Advising, Faculty, Summer Programs, Library and Academic Technology Center staff as appropriate regarding development and implementation of accommodation plans.
  • Monitor, evaluate and adjust individual accommodation plans for students. Provide follow-up and support of accommodations both inside and outside the classroom. Act as a liaison between students with disabilities and the faculty and staff.
  • Provide leadership for the design and implementation of supportive programming for students with disabilities.
  • Consult with WPI Office of Admissions, prospective students and their parents on concerns related to potential accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Maintain confidential student files, records, and DSO database for students who receive accommodations. Responsible for the maintenance DSO website.
  • Exercise administrative responsibility for all student disability services programs and budget matters including assessment of the WPI Student Disabilities program.
  • Serve as a resource for disability information and training for faculty and staff.
  • Participate in weekly CARE team meetings to discuss students of concern with other administrative staff involved with student health and well being.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required with expertise in learning disabilities, special education or related field. Minimum of three years experience in higher education disabilities services working with individuals with psychological, physical, sensory impairments, medical conditions, learning disorders, attention deficit disorders and/or other conditions.
  • Thorough working knowledge of state and federal statutes, regulations and laws pertaining to disabled students at the post secondary level including the American’s with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 legislation as well as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is essential.
  • Three years or more experience in reading and interpreting psychological and psycho-educations evaluation and other professional documentation.
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience managing and analyzing budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. Experience conducting disability service training for faculty and staff.

Disability Services Administrator

Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University’s office of Academic Compliance and Regulation is seeking a full time Disability Services Administrator. This position will ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and regulations and University policies and procedures related to disabled student programs and services administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for development and implementation of disability policies, procedures and programs as they relate to individuals with disabilities.
  • Help evaluate and monitor disability compliance with ADA/ADAAA/Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and applicable Special Education laws and regulations as it relates to individuals with disabilities.
  • Remains up-to-date on all pending disability legislation and changing legal mandates which would affect the University’s responsibility to provide services and accommodations to students with disabilities.
  • Arrange provision of low vision/blind/LD materials, adaptive technology and deaf/hard-of-hearing services, and train staff to oversee their use.
  • Researches disabled student grievances related to enrollment, withdrawals, tuition reimbursement, final grades, classroom misconduct, classroom policies, instructor issues and plagiarism charges.
  • Assist students in making decisions affecting their academic progress at the University through personal guidance, changes in major courses of study, interpretation of University and School guidelines and policies, administrative counsel, development in student support systems, and decisions based on an analysis of the students’ academic records.
  • Intervene both proactively and reactively to assist student or staff member with any aspect of the accommodation process. Negotiate alternative resolutions to unusual situations related to disability issues.
  • Creates and maintains effective, cooperative and collegial relationships with state, county and local offices, departments and/or agencies that provide serves to individuals with disabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ work experience in a role which involves handling of complex customer service issues. Prefer experience in higher education and previous handling of accommodations for disabled individuals.

Director, Student Disability Services & Deputy Title IX Coordinator

Responsibilities:
Directs the university’s Student Disability Services Office to assure effective service delivery and Section 504 legal compliance. Reviews disability accommodation requests, engages in interactive process with student, generates related decisions, documents and notification forms. Maintains accurate files and records. Maintains follow up contact with students and facilitates problem-solving processes if accommodations require adjustment. Works with Academic Affairs liaison as needed for academic accommodations. Serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Minimum Requirements:
