The City of South Lake Tahoe is seeking an accomplished and collaborative Assistant City Manager to help lead City operations and advance the City Council’s strategic priorities.

This executive-level position assists the City Manager in directing and coordinating City operations, leading assigned service areas and special projects, developing policies and programs, managing complex budgets, and building partnerships with the community and other governmental agencies. The position also provides oversight and support for functions within the City Manager Department and may act as City Manager in the City Manager’s absence.

The ideal candidate is an experienced municipal leader with strong leadership, management, communication, public speaking, budget, and administration skills. A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is desirable. Required experience includes ten years of progressively responsible municipal government experience, with at least five years in management and supervisory roles.

Description

The City of Lampasas is seeking an experienced, relationship-driven leader to serve as its next City Manager. Conveniently located in Central Texas, one hour north of Austin, and 30 minutes west of Killeen and Fort Hood, Lampasas maintains the personality of a rural small town while understanding that growth is inevitable and will positively impact our local economy. At the intersection of three major highways, US 183, 281, and 190 (future I-14), Lampasas provides easy access to big city amenities and is an attractive option for business relocation from Travis, Williamson, Burnet and Bell Counties.

City Council has made investments to the quality of life for our residents including recent park and facility improvements to the Historic Hostess House, Campbell Park Skate Park, Bike trails, Hancock Park Spring Fed Pool, and the 580 Sports Park and Rodeo Arena. Council is also committed to increasing capacity for utilities in anticipation of growth. Staff and elected officials value our community partnerships and their contributions to the City including the Lampasas Association for the Arts-Sculpture Garden, Cooper Spring Nature Park Foundation, Lampasas Trails Association, and Vision Lampasas-murals and gateway signage.

Scope of Services and Responsibility

Lampasas is a full-service City including electric distribution, water distribution, sewer collection and treatment, 18-hole golf course, airport, Police and Fire Department, Library, and Citizen Collection Station. The current annual operating budget for the City is $34 million, with a staff of 120 FTE’s. The City of Lampasas is a home rule municipal corporation operating under Council-Manager form of government. Candidates must be familiar with home rule municipalities and their governance, as well as operations of Municipally Owned Utilities. The City Manager also serves as Executive Director of the Lampasas Economic Development Corporation.

The position provides resources to, and develops the City’s workforce related to increased technical ability, competency, customer service and efficiency. The incumbent will create a positive public image of the City and City staff by action, example and leadership.

City Manager

City of Las Cruces, NM

As the chief administrator, the Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization, managing the work of City personnel, and implementing Council policies, goals, and objectives. The City Manager provides Council with policy and program recommendations and develops the Annual Budget and multi-year Capital Improvement Program. The City Manager currently has six direct reports, which include the Chief of Staff, Assistant City Manager (2), Fire Chief, Police Chief, and City Attorney.

The City Manager’s Office in Las Cruces includes the following five divisions: Administration, Council and Community Support, Fiscal Management, Community Relations, and Fleet Management. The Office has 58.5 FTEs and a budget of $9.7 million.
